Cello sonatas as a belated birthday present

Press 01/17/2021

Prize winner Ben Cruchley was a guest in the Chamber Music Hall of the Beethoven House in Bonn in January 2021. Together with his duo partner, cellist Jonathan Weigle, he presented the city's greatest son with a belated birthday present: all five of the composer's sonatas for cello and piano were heard in Beethoven's birthplace: From the youthful Two Sonatas op. 5 to the Great A Major Sonata op. 69 to the two visionary pieces op. 102 from the late creative period, they formed a journey through Beethoven's entire oeuvre. In the midst of a time when live concerts in front of an audience were unthinkable in large parts of Europe, the two musicians drew a special concert evening with their livestream concert that had audiences worldwide. Deutsche Telekom AG supported the concert in several ways: in addition to IT infrastructure created especially for the concerts, Telekom also provided the concert hall free of charge for the two musicians.
