The Czech pianist and music manager David Mareček is a highly sought-after chamber musician who regularly performs with Czech Republic’s most prominent soloists, including violinists Jiří Vodička and Jan Mráček, cellists Michaela Fukačová and Václav Petr, and singer Jan Martiník. He has performed with leading musicians such as cellists Alisa Weilerstein and Gautier Capuçon and chamber ensembles such as Dover, Jerusalem and Zemlinsky Quartets. With Alisa Weilerstien he performed live on BBC Radio 3 (2018) and recorded a recital for Czech Television (2021). His Supraphon recording of Dvořák’s Complete works for violin and piano with Jiří Vodička received „Editor’s Choice“ in Gramophon and „Choc de Classica“ (2024).
In his managerial work he served from 2007 to 2011 as CEO of the Brno Philharmonic, and since 2011 he has been the CEO of the Czech Philharmonic. During his tenure, he brought in Jiří Bělohlávek (2011) and Semyon Bychkov (2018) as chief conductors, and Jakub Hrůša (2012) and Sir Simon Rattle (2024) as principal guest conductors. Under his leadership, the Czech Philharmonic's budget has tripled, and sponsorship funding has increased twenty times. In 2024 the Czech Philharmonic was named "Orchestra of the Year" by Gramophone magazine and was invited for a three-concert residency by the Carnegie Hall together with the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic.
David Mareček graduated from the Brno Conservatory, where he studied piano and conducting under Ivana Stanovská and Evžen Holiš, and continued his piano studies at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts with Inessa Janíčková and Jaroslav Smýkal. He has also participated in masterclasses with renowned pianists and teachers including Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Dominique Weber, and Peter Lang.
